Care Homes for Older People Page 3 of 8 What we found: Church Farm Residential Home was due a Key Inspection by May 2010. However, as the current quality rating is excellent we assessed the current information we have about the service and decided it would be appropriate to carry out a random inspection instead. This is in line with current guidance which has been issued. We reviewed information in the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment, or AQAA, provided by the registered provider, and information provided by residents who returned completed surveys to us. We also reviewed information the provider has sent to in notifications of incidents and events in the home which are required by current legislation. In addition we considered information we have about the any complaints, concerns or allegations of which we we have been made aware. We visited the home on Tuesday 27th April 2010. We informed the registered manager of our intention to carry out a random inspection and how this would be conducted. We looked at standards which are about the quality of care provided to residents. This included examining a selection of care records, medication records, staff recruitment and induction records, staff training and supervision records. We spoke to residents during our visit in order to gain a sense of how it is to live in the care home. We also spoke to a group of staff in order to gain a view of how it is to work there. We also observed care practices and made a brief visit to some of the communal accommodation. Mrs Phyllis Jeffrey, the registered manager, was present during our visit and provided us with additional information when we needed it. We informed her of our findings at the end of the inspection. We found evidence that Church Farm Residential Home continues to provide a service which ensures the outcome to residents is that they receive excellent care.
