What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. The previous key inspection report of 30 January 2008. The previous Annual Service Review of 22 January 2009. Brief discussion with the manager of the service. What has this told us about the service? The service sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and other information we had about the service and our judgement is that Church View Nursing Home continues to provide a good service to people who live there. The AQAA detailed improvements that had been made within the last twelve months. These improvements included, new furniture, bedrooms being enlarged with the building of bay windows, all bedroom carpets and soft furnishings have been replaced. The AQAA also clearly details areas that could be developed further, these developments included more outings, to complete the gold star award to a high standard and to become a dignity champion along with continued improvement in communication with residents, families and staff. We sent surveys to the home to distribute to people who live there, to staff and to visiting health professionals. We received five completed surveys from people living at Church View. The surveys showed overall satisfaction with the service and care provided. We received four surveys from staff who work at the home, they indicated that they had the information they needed to care and support people and that appropriate training takes place. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Of what the service does well, people living at the home said, The home cares for me well. Staff are professional and approachable, nursing care is excellent, matron and deputy are very good clinically and managerially. Welcoming atmosphere, just like home from home. Staff are hardworing and friendly. The home has a varied range of clients, we always cater to their needs both in care and nutrition. Of what could be improved, both staff and people living at the home thought more opportunities for activities and outings would be good. The manager had identified this in the AQAA as an area for improvement. Other comments made by people living at Churchview included, Churchview is a very happy and homely nursing home, well managed by a caring matron and her staff. All aspects of a nursing home cleanlinees, nursing, caring, good good etc being first class. It is a home with family and friends. The AQAA detailed that there had been five complaints within the last twelve months, two of which were upheld and none of the investigations are outstanding. It was detailed in respect of complaints that all complaints are taken seriously and investigated and that there is the use of an independant advocate service should it be needed. People who had completed the surveys indicated that they Churchview continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. This annual service review has shown that Church View Nursing Home continues to offer the people who live there a good service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 29 January 2011.
