Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection, which was carried out on 9 December 2008. Other information we looked at included; The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. Relevant information that we may have received from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. Information we received from surveys that were sent out to service users, staff, health care professionals and other stakeholders. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) on time. 15 service users returned surveys and they all answered positively to the questions we asked. Comments from service users included; I am very happy at the home it feels like my own home the food is excellent my family are always made welcome and offered tea, coffee or lunch the manager is always there for everyone and I feel I can talk to her about anything and I can make my own decisions about what I do each day. 10 members of staff returned our surveys and again these were all positive about the care and support that users of the service receive. Comments from staff included; The manager is excellent and is always there to offer advice and support the needs of clients are identified and met and everyone is very friendly and we all work well as a team. We also received surveys from 3 health care professionals who were full of praise for the service. Comments included; under the present leadership of the manager the team of care staff, caterers and cleaners provide a service which is second to none the staff are very caring I have never had any concerns about the care given at Cornielia heights and the staff always treat residents with dignity and respect. The last key inspection and the AQAA shows that the home has policies and procedures available for residents regarding complaints and the AQAA told us that the home has not received any complaints in the last 12 months. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The home has told us that in the last 12 months they have improved the summaries in care plans to provide more information for staff. They told us that they there have been improvements to the access arrangements for the garden and they have have increased the number of trips out for residents. The home has also identified areas where they could do better and told us that during the course of the next year, they plan to install a new boiler to improve the heating of hot water. They also intend to liaise with relatives about activites held at the home. From the information available to us our judgement is that Cornelia Heights is still providing an Excellent service and the home continues to provide positive outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and we will do a key inspection by 9 December 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
