What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was completed and sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for those people who use the service. Feedback from people using the service and from staff. Information we have about how the service manages any complaints. Notifications we have received from the service. The previous key inspection report and Annual Service Review. Relevant information from other organisations. What has this told us about the service? The service was sent their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA), and returned the completed document by the date we asked for it. The information provided an excellent, detailed and considered description of the work that has taken place over the last 12 months, and the plans for future development. The service is clearly commited to ensuring that people living at the home have a voice and are involved in decisions that affect them. For example a residents meeting takes place every six weeks. The use of signs symbols and visual aids are an integral part of the meeting. A photo system aids turn taking ensuring everyone has equal time and opportunity to contribute ideas, concerns or general comments. Actions from these meetings are taken up directly by the keyworkers or by management. Person centred planning meetings take place regularly. The manager reported that since the reduction in the number of residents and a proportionate reduction in staff, the atmosphere has improved, the residents have been happier, and there are now plans to provide staff with additional training from a therapeutic perspective in areas such as Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Challenging Behaviour etc. Social inclusion is promoted with residents using local shops, hairdressers, pubs and restaurants. Two of the residents practice their faith and attend two different churches. All residents have up to date leisure cards so that they can access local health and fitness facilities. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 Staff retention at the home is good, and staff told us that they feel well supported, receive the training they need, and enjoy and take pride in the work they do to ensure that a high quality of support is provided. The AQAA information and additional range of evidence available at the time of this review clearly supports the view that Cornerstone Trust continues to provide excellent outcomes for people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will continue to monitor information about this service and will carry out an inspection when required Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
