Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? At the last inspection carried out on the 3rd June 2008 Croft House was awarded a two star good quality rating. We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included:The annual quality assurance assessment that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by twenty people using the service, three members of staff and two health professionals. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and they have made some improvements since the last inspection. The improvements they have told us about are:To make sure people are receiving the care they need the matron has looked the care plans to ensure they are giving a person centred approach. The home has invested heavily in specialist equipment to further enhance independence and dignity for people for example Midilift Hoist, high pressure relief mattress, bed sensors, pressure mattresses for beds and several recliner chairs. One of the communal bathrooms has been updated by converting it into a wet room for people who prefer a shower to a bath. This provides people with more choice, helps to promote their independence and can offer more privacy. Other communal areas in the home have been redecorated continuing a programme of redecoration and refurbishment. The home has increased the social activities and now has an activities diary of future events as well as a details of who joined in with those activities. Also a computer is now available for people to use. An example they told us about was they participated in a local schools initiative where local children visit homes to talk to people about their Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 past experiences. They have told us how they have a well established staff team and how long staff have worked at the home. For instance the matron has worked for 17 years, 2 senior members of staff for 12 years, other seniors for 10 years and 8 years. In the surveys people told us they happy with the service they are provided with, examples of the comments made are:Give an excellent care service, provides activities for stimulation, staff always pleasant and provides an excellent laundry and cleaning service. Peoples care is second to none all the staff know all of the people. Peoples needs are always first. The activities are very good especially the arts and crafts and the trips out into the countryside. Staff very caring and treat my relative with respect. Very impressed with Croft house our relative moved in and has settled in extremely well due to the caring nature of the staff. We cannot speak highly enough of the registered manager. The perfect place for our relative. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and we will do a key inspection by the 3rd June 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time, to look at the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
