Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection in February 2009. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people with an interest in the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection. Other information we have received about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA). The AQAA was completed by the registered manager to a high standard and provided the information that was required. The AQAA described areas that the home has improved including the provision of a sensory room and the addition of two cats following the requests of the people who live at the home. The AQAA also stated that they are now providing peoples person centred plans in pictorial format and that eighty per cent of care staff either have or are doing an NVQ in care. Service users have had a holiday funded by the home in 2009 and are planning a holiday for 2010. The AQAA contained other information as to where service users have been involved in decisions about the home. The previous key inspection was undertaken in February 2009. This was the first inspection that the home had had since registration in September 2008. No requirements or recommendations were made. We sent comment cards (surveys) to the home to give to people who live at the home to complete. We received three completed comment cards. These showed that people are happy with the service they receive at the home. People added comments including in the section what the service does well being nice and helping people, I can do things I like, I like my independence, another that they like the food, the garden, my own chair and the photos. One person stated that they had had a holiday last year and another that they feel safe and calm living at the home. Service users also stated that they like the staff. We sent surveys to the home for staff to complete. No completed staff surveys had been received at the time of completing this ASR. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 We also sent surveys to the home to give to external health and social care professionals. No completed surveys have been received from them either. At the time of the previous key inspection the home was in the process of registering a new manager. This was completed in April 2009. One service user stated that they like Emma the manager. The home was registered for five people at the previous key inspection and was in the process of completing the work on two further bedrooms. These were registered in September 2009 and the home can now accommodate up to seven younger adults with a learning disability. No concerns or complaints were raised in any of the surveys received by the people who live at the home. Those who completed comment cards stated that they knew how to complain and named people they could talk to if they were unhappy or had any complaints. The home has notified the commission of incidents that have occurred in the home. Information in the notifications indicates that the home has taken appropriate action following the incidents. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? There is no evidence to indicate that the service is not still continuing to provide good outcomes for the people who live there.
