What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service, such as numbers of staff and what qualifications they hold. Any surveys returned to us by people using the service, and from other people with an interest in the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service. The inspection record. This is a document where we record any activity or information that we receive about the home. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. The previous key inspection report and annual service reviews. What has this told us about the service? The agency sent us their AQAA when we asked for it. It was very clear, and gave us all the information we asked for. The information showed us that the service is continuing to make sure the people who receive the service are well supported. There is continual self monitoring to make sure good standards are kept. The management of the agency is open, and service users, staff and relatives are encouraged to help in developing the service. The care manager told us in information sent to us This is the clients home and is never treated as the staffs workplace, the clients are respected at all times and We hold regular client meetings with staff and family members and when possible involve them in all daily routines in the home and outside the home. Surveys we received from clients were all positive. They told us that they were able to make their own decisions about what they did each day, and they knew who to speak to if they were unhappy about something. They told us the staff always treated them well. One client said (The home) looks after me very well. Nice friend I live with. Good food. Another told us I like the staff and my bedroom is nice Staff confirmed that they received good induction and relevant training, and they all Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 felt they had enough support and knowledge to meet peoples differing needs. One staff member said (The home) provides a good warm, family atmosphere, also it puts in a high level of support to make sure all of our residents enjoy a full life style. The care manager told us how training had improved for staff (We have) made available new courses and options for staff to make sure that day to day working is made easier for them to work with the clients. All of the eight care staff employed by the home hold National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ). He also told us of further plans to improve services, with more decoration and refurbishment of the environment, and continued constant liaison with staff and clients to ensure individual needs and choices are met. We discussed with the care manager how the AQAA from Draycombe House could be improved with more detail about the actual operational systems of the home, with examples of how they have benefited clients and staff. All services are required to have written procedures in place to be followed if it is suspected that a client has been the victim of abuse. These are generally referred to as safeguarding procedures. The home has these procedures in place, and have made one safeguarding referral to the local authority in the last twelve months. They followed procedures correctly, in good liaison with the social work team, so protecting the clients living at the home. Neither the home, nor the Care Quality Commission, have received any complaints since the last inspection. The provider works with us, and has demonstrated that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who are supported by them. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will continue to monitor the service. We can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service, or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
