Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we received since the last key inspection on 24th June 2008. The registered manager completed an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA). This document is a self-assessment that focuses on how well the outcomes are being met for people using the service. We checked whether there had been any concerns, complaints or allegations. We looked at other information received from the home that is required by regulation. This include notifications of issues related to peoples well being as per Regulation 37 of the Care Homes Regulations. We looked at the last key inspection report. What has this told us about the service? The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) gave the registered manager the opportunity to say what the home did well, what had improved and what they were working on to improve. The information demonstrated that the home had a proactive approach to meeting the needs and wishes of people living in the home. We had not received any complaints or safeguarding allegation about this home. The manager continued to notify us of incidents that affected people living in the home and, where relevant, the action taken to reduce or prevent further incident. The home had carried out work to improve care planning. Senior members of staff attended care planning training and care plans were reviewed and updated to ensure that the information was individual to each person. Future plans were to involve all carers in the care planning process. We ensure that care plans for our service users are person centred and meet individual needs and that they reflect personal choice, privacy and dignity. The home had also introduced Memory Diaries to record relevant information about each persons life history. This information would help provide a holistic view of each person. The home considered that it provided a Well structured activity programme that was Varied and stimulating. Staffing had stabilised and the AQAA stated that staffing levels met or exceeded peoples needs. There was staff development through a structured training programme that included mandatory health and safety training. The manager had undertaken training relevant to her role and the deputy manager had also received training to Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 provide support to the manager. An issue noted at the last inspection was poor communication between staff and also between the home and peoples families. The AQAA stated that communication had improved. The area support manager carried out visits to the home as required by regulation. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 22nd June 2010. The service will continue to be monitored and we can carry out an inspection if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people living there.
