Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? On the 15th April 2008 we did an Annual Service Review of the service, we then did a key inspection on the 24th October 2008 and this was rated as a two star good service. We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection and annual service review. This included, The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection Report, the results of any other visits that we may have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance (AQAA) when we asked for it and gave us the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and in the last key inspection report and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The home tell us that as a result of listening to service users and their families, they have made a number of changes to the home regarding service provision and changes to the environment. The lounge has been redecorated and carpets and lighting have been changed. The dining area has been re-arranged to create smaller informal areas and includes a small quiet area for service users and their families to have have somewhere private. Externally, the building has had a number of improvements made that includes painting and a new roof. Areas centred around medication have also improved. A new medication trolley and a lockable refrigerator have been purchased to ensure the safe storage of medication used in the home. The service tells us that the day to day social activities have been changed to offer more extensive activities and feedback from service users and their families have been very positive about the activities programme now used. A new orientation board that is completed daily gives service users the information they need to know what is going on in the home. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The complaints procedure has been reviewed. The home state they are proud of their low level of complaints they receive and have received no complaints in the last twelve months. All users of the service have been given a copy of the complaints procedure and other copies are made available at all times at the information point in the home. Staff training continues and all staff employed have attained an NVQ care qualification at Level two or above, the home are also proud of their achievement in gaining the Investors in Peope Standard. A comments and suggestions box has been introduced and located in the reception area. The box is used for service users and visitors to the service to suggect any changes they would like to see regarding the running of the home. A monthly newsletter and visitors comments book have improved communications and both provide valuable information for the manager of the service into what service users and their families think about the service they are receiving. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 28th October 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
