What the care home does well People living at the home enjoy a variety of activities and entertainment. There were very good records in place which showed all of the care needs of people living at the home.The care plans were person centered and reflected the needs of the people living at the home. Records were up to date and showed regular evaluation. There was evidence of people being encouraged to make decisions and choices in all areas of daily living. The home was well maintained and all areas of the home were clean and tidy. Complaints and safeguarding issues were properly recorded. These had been reported to the appropriate authorities,including CQC. A recent safeguarding issue had been investigated and resolved. The provider`s representative has carried out a series of monitoring visits within the home. The provider is required under regulation 26 to produce a report of these monitoring visits. Staffing levels were sufficient to meet the current needs of people living in the home What the care home could do better: Staff should receive training about behaviour that may be difficult to work with in order to help understand the communication of people who may not communicate verbally. Staff should receive more developmental training to help them understand the specialist needs of people in their care. Random inspection report

It is in a quiet location with no through traffic. There are shops and other community facilities. Fell House provides care, including nursing care, to older people over the age of 65

There is level entry to the ground floor and the upper floor has passenger lift access. There are lounge/dining areas on each floor and a South-facing conservatory. The corridors are wide and the communal areas and bathrooms are of generous proportions. The grounds are well kept, and although the majority of this space is devoted to car parking, service users enjoy the use of a small south-facing terrace in fine weather. The Statement of Purpose and Service User Guide is available in the home. The Guide also includes information about how residents rights will be respected regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, race and religion.The information is available in large print and also in pictures. The costs of newspapers, hairdressing, and toiletries are not included in the fees. Fees vary depending on peoples circumstances, further details can be found in the homes Service User Guide. Payments for nursing care is set nationally and is added to the fee rate. Fees for private chiropody and hairdressing are in addition the these charges. The last key inspection of the home judged it was operating at an excellent level. This unannounced inspection on June 1st 2010 was carried out to see if the home was still operating at an excellent level. Before the visit we looked at information we received since the last visit to the home. This includes how the service dealt with any complaints and changes to how the home is run. During the visit we talked with people who use the service,some staff and the manager. Following the inspection feedback was given to the manager.
