Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included, The last key inspection that took place on the 19th November 2008. The annual quality assurance assessment which is called an AQAA. The AQAA is a self assessment that is filled in once a year by all providers and it is one of the main ways that we will get information from providers about how they are meeting outcomes for people living at the home. The AQAA also provides us with statistical information about the individual service and trends and patterns in social care and what developments are planned. We also look at information we have about how the home has managed any complaints. We also look at what the home has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. We also consider any relevant information from other organisations and what other people have told us about the service. We had sent a selection of surveys to the home to distribute to staff, relatives, health professionals and people living at the home to offer them a chance to raise their comments and opinions about the home. In total we received 15 surveys from a mixture of people offering their opinions about the home. We have included a sample of their comments in this report. What has this told us about the service? The manager sent us their annual quality assurance assessment called their aqaa. It was clear and gave us the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the aqaa and our judgement based on this document shows that the home is still providing a good level of support. The aqaa shows that the company and the manager are clear about what the service does well and what improvements and developments they have made following their last key visit from our department. We had received 6 surveys from staff who were overall very positive in their comments about working at the home and indicated they felt well supported and well trained to be able to do their job. They also indicated that they knew what to do if someone wanted to make a complaint and they felt they were aware of the complaints policy and procedures to be followed. Most staff indicated they always had enough staff on duty however 3 staff felt they either sometimes, or usually, had enough staff on duty to meet peoples needs. Some staff offered their comments and opinions stating, Sometimes staffing levels is not enough, One person made a suggestion to have, better staffing levels, Some positive staff comments were made including, We ensure clients care needs are up to the highest standards. The home looks after the health and welfare of our residents. Peoples comments and suggestions about staffing levels should be reviewed within the home to enable feedback to be given to their comments. We had received 4 surveys from people living at the home which overall were very Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 positive. They all indicated they were happy with the care they received and felt they knew who to contact to discuss any concerns they may have. Some comments included, I am satisfied with the care I am receiving. Theres always carers on hand to help, staff are caring and helpful. Most people indicated they were happy with their meals however 2 people felt they either, usually or, sometimes enjoyed their meals. Peoples comments about the meals should be reviewed within the home to enable feedback to be given to their comments. In total we had received 5 surveys from relatives and visitors to the home. Overall they were mostly positive and they felt well informed and knew how to make a complaint. They also indicated that the staff were well trained. They made various comments such as, Very well groomed, always clean and tidy, food very good, food varied and in good quantities, good choice. Bedroom always clean and tidy as is the rest of the home. Staff very friendly and approachable, all grades of staff able to give feedback. The service is excellent. I am kept informed all the time. All the staff are excellent, nothing is too much trouble. From my point of view they do everything well and go on regular training. The staff are very approachable and have dealt with any minor concerns we have had. My family and I are always made to feel welcome when visiting Green Park, we cannot thank them enough. Some suggestions made related to the current staff levels and suggested, Maybe have more staff. At times the staffing levels seem to low which puts more pressure on the duty staff. The manager continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection. She has shown that the company manage issues well. They keep our department up to date and they have shown they continue to provide goood outcomes to the people who live at Green Park. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? Due to various guidance from the commission for the next 12 months, the service has received an annual service review on this occasion. The care quality commission will continue to monitor information about this service and will carry out an inspection when required. We plan to do a key main inspection by 19th November 2010. However we may change this date and choose to inspect the home at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people living there.
