What the care home does well Staff were observed providing the care to people living in the home. There were many examples of good practice seen. Examples of this were, staff getting down to the eye level of people when they were speaking to them, staff providing people with time to answer questions, staff being polite and helpful when interacting with people living in the home. Some positive comments were made about the staff and the care they provided: "All the staff are very kind and look after me well". "I feel well looked after staff are lovely and the meals are good". The premises are clean, hygienic and free from offensive odours. Systems are in place to prevent the spread of infections. What the care home could do better: This is what the manager/owner said about planned improvement for the next twelve months: To ensure staff are provided with the necessary mandatory training to enable them to care for people properly and safely. To ensure all the necessary checks are completed before anyone start work at the home. Random inspection report

We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people has told us about the service. This was an unannounced visit to the home by one inspector. During the visit we talked to the staff and the registered manager about their work and the training they have completed, and checking some of the records, policies and procedures the home has to keep. We also spent time talking with people who live in the home, to ask their views on life in the home. The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. At the previous inspection we required the home to make some improvements. These were to do with the management of medication administration; information about the management of people at risk of falls; staff must be provided with the necessary mandatory training to enable them to care for people properly and safely; all the necessary checks must have completed before any staff work at the home. We found that there had been improvements in all but one of these areas. People said that they felt well looked after and described staff as lovely and very good. One person spoken with said she enjoyed the meals. During our visit we looked closely at the care of the person living there. Overall we could see that records are kept up to date and that care plans are reviewed regularly. There was evidence that the manager/owner is identifying where reviews have not been done and we saw that corrective action had been taken. Risk assessments are being completed and where falls had occurred care plans have been produced to reduce this. Overall staffing were adequate for the number of people at the home. We saw staff approaching people kindly and respecting peoples choice. There seemed to be a good rapport between staff and the people living at the home. This is what the manager wrote in the AQAA about what has improved since the last visit: Revised medication policy and now use Nomad system exclusively. Arranged for staff to attend mandatory training updates with a local nursing home. The environment within the home has been enhanced with the new carpet in peoples bedroom, new stair-lift and refurbishment of the bathroom. Practices with respect to medication have improved
