What did we do for this annual service review? The annual service review for Highcroft included the following: The last key inspection was undertaken on 4TH November 2008 when it received a quality rating of three stars. The home was asked to complete an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment by us. The AQAA is a self assessment and data set, which providers are asked to complete each year and is one of the main ways we obtain information about how they are meeting outcomes for people using their service. Completion of the AQAA gives providers the opportunity to tell us about their service and how well they think they are performing. The information given allows us to develop a picture of the service being provided and target our inspection activity. Surveys were returned to us by people using the service providing us with their views about how well the home is doing. We take into account what the home has told us about things that have happened in the previous twelve months, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. What has this told us about the service? The manager of the home returned the AQAA to us when we asked for it. The information was clear and showed how they were meeting the expectations and outcomes for people using the service. They told us they are carrying out monthly meetings for people using the service in order for them to discuss any issues from the previous months activities also to discuss standards in the home and to raise any other issues they feel they need to share. In addition the home holds quarterly quality group meetings aimed at families and representatives to highlight any issues or concerns and the information is used as part of the business planning programme for the development of the service. In order to gain the views of people using the service they told us they provide monitoring forms so they can measure the effectiveness of the service and make changes where necessary. Comments we received from people living at the home included, I like everything about living here, the staff are super and always have time for you, Its just so nice here, The home does everything well, Nothings to much trouble for anyone. They told us they have introduced an equality and diversity record in the recruitment of staff, so that they can make sure they are providing equal opportunities to applicants so they are not disadvantaged. A dedicated member of staff is monitoring this to ensure the principles of equality and diversity are respected. In addition the home ensures equality and diversity issues are addressed when providing services to people living there. This is carried out by the care planning process and they told us people have the opportunity to have their religious needs met either by attending Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 church or having clergy visit the home. Surveys we received told us people are happy with this. Information we received told us they have introduced individual activity plans for each person so that the record shows what activity a person has been involved in and can focus on favorites so that peoples choices are met. They said there is a comprehensive complaints procedure available to people who use the service which is included in the homes written information. There have been no complaints investigated in the previous twelve months. They told us they are working hard to continually improve the environment so that it is homely and meets peoples needs. There are a range of aids and adaptations available for people with mobility problems. Comments we received told us people are happy living in the home and very satisfied with all areas of care and support. The information we received told us staff feel supported in their roles, and that they receive regular supervision from the management team so that they are monitored in their individual roles and they have the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills through an active training programme made available to all staff. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will continue to monitor information about this service and will carry out an inspection when required.
