Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we had received, or asked for since the last key inspection in February 2009. This included: . The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was completed and sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for those people who use the service. . Feedback surveys returned to us by those using the service and from staff. . Information we have about how the home manages any complaints. . What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. . The previous inspection report. . Relevant information from other organisations. . What people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment within the timescale given for completion. The information provided showed us what improvements the home has made and their plans for the future. For example, the introduction of advanced nurse practitioners has provided staff with support when dealing with other professionals. From the homes satisfaction questionnaires the staff have added activities to the residents meeting agenda so that this will improve them and ensure that residents are made aware of forth coming events. The front garden area has received attention. Plans for the future are to include, to build up contacts within the local community, to continue with staff training and to eliminate the use of agecny staff. Our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service for the people living at the home. As part of the review we asked people using the service and staff to complete our surveys telling us what they think about the home. We received completed feedback from nine residents and seven staff. People living the home indicated they are happy there. One said, The home does everything well, at the moment everything is fine. Another said, The home is very clean and the meals are good. Staff comments were positive, one said, Hourigan House is a well run, well organised home. Staff enjoy working there, this shows in the atmosphere. Staff confirmed that they receive the necessary training relevant to their role and that appropriate checks were carried out Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 prior to commencing work at the home. Feedback is gathered by the home through their own quality assurance systems, which includes good communication with the residents and their family, questionnaires and residents/relatives meetings. Currently the home is being managed by an acting manager. Information on the AQAA tells us there has been no complaints made to the acting manager and there has been no adult safeguarding referrals or investigations within the last tweleve months. Information on the AQAA told us that mandatory staff training is up to date and that training for NVQs is ongoing. The home and company informs us of any events which may occur and manages any problems arising in a professional manner. The home works well with us and has shown that the service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The Care Quality Commission will contiue to monitor information about this service and will carry out an inspection when required.
