Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information we have received about Lindisfarne since the last key inspection on 13th November 2008. This information included the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA). This is a self-assessment document that the manager has completed to tell us how well outcomes are being met for the people who stay here. We have also looked at any other information we have received, such as events or changes that the service has told us about. These are called notifications and it is important that the services keeps us up-to-date about anything that affect the wellbeing of people while they are staying here. We have looked at any comments and complaints about the service and how the provider has managed these. We spoke with the manager about previous requirements from the last inspection. The manager was able to confirm how these have been addressed. What has this told us about the service? Lindisfarne sent us the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It gave us all the information we asked for. The AQAA shows how the home has continued to improve since the last key inspection. Improvements to the service include changes to the welcome pack for new residents. This now includes better information about the homes complaints policy and details of who their key worker staff will be. Also, the chef and the activities staff now meet with each new resident to talk about their likes and dislikes. The manager said, This is a good way of meeting a new resident and finding out a bit about them. The home continues to improve its communication with residents and their families. For example the home now produces a quarterly newsletter, and the activities staff provide information leaflets for residents about forthcoming activities and events. The home has also provided new plasma screen televisions and more musical DVDs, following suggestions by residents. The garden has been made more enclosed for the private use of residents, and potting tubs have been bought for those residents who would like to be involved in gardening. (The home is also considering a potting shed for residents to work in.) The home now has themed corridors and memory boxes outside rooms. These are good ways of helping people to find their way around. Door frames have been painted in contrasting colours for the benefit of people with low vision. It is very good that the home has continued to be awarded a 5* rating for Food Safety by the Environmental Health agency. The AQAA shows that all staff have now achieved a national care qualification (called NVQ level 2 or 3) and are enrolling themselves onto more training courses. The Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 manager said, It is a credit to the staff that they want to learn and give good care. The AQAA shows that the home plans to continue to personalise its service to meet the individual preferences and needs of each resident. For example it plans to provide more information to each person about their rights. It plans to make sure that there is a life story and memory box for each person with a dementia care needs, so that staff can support their individuality as a person. There are plans for more training for staff, and training for senior staff to help them to take a supervisory role. The home has dealt with three complaints and one safeguarding adults alert in the past year. Lindisfarne feels that is does well at dealing with comments or concerns. The home has shown us that it has taken action to make things better. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We will do a key inspection of Lindisfarne by 12th November 2010. However we can inspect the home at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people who live here.
