Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? The last key inspection for this service was carried out on the 24 September 2008. We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment form that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. Since the last inspection, the home has made a number of improvements as a result of suggestions from the people who use the service and their relatives. This includes providing people with more social and leisure activities and making improvements to the garden. A computer has also been installed to enable people to maintain contact with family and friends by e-mail if they wish to do so. We received one survey questionnairre back from a person living at the home completed with the help of their relative. Comments included everything is very satisfactory - my mum is well cared for and very happy living here. Information provided in the self-assessment form shows that peoples needs are always assessed before they move into the home and they are invited to visit before admission, to see at first hand the facilities provided, meet the staff and other people living there. This is good practice and shows that people are supported through the Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 admission process. The home has recognised quality assurance monitoring systems in place and is proactive in seeking the views and opinions of people that use the service, their relatives and other healthcare professionals. We receved two survey questionnaires back from healthcare professionals and they told us that peoples health care needs are properly monitored and the home always seeks advice if they have any concerns. Comments included staff are very professional and people are well looked after and cared for and the home provides appropriate care to people on an individual basis and makes sure all their care needs are met. There is a clear complaints procedure in place and information provided in the selfassessment form shows that no complaints have been received by the home in the last year. Policies and procedures are in place to protect people from any form of abuse and staff receive training on safeguarding vulnerable adults. Information provided in the self-assessment form shows that policies and procedures are in place to make sure staff follow safe working practices and all equipment is serviced in line with manufacturers guidelines. People can therefore be sure that their health and safety is not being compromised. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that the service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and we will do a key inspection by the 23 September 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have any concerns about the quality of the service provided or the safety of the people using the service.
