Annual Service Review Page 2 of 6 Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last inspection or annual service review. This included: * The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people who use the service. It also gave some numerical information about the service. * Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. * Surveys that we have received from people who use the service. * What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. * The previous key inspection on 27th March 2008. * The last annual service review on 24th March 2009. * Relevant information from other organisations. * What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. They told us what they do well: We have a well established culture of respecting and valuing individuals, reflected in the development of person centred plans, planning teams, individual activities and approaches. Service users are proactively supported with regards to new opportunities and maximising independence. There is a commitment to inclusion demonstrated in the type of activities people pursue. Staff are committed to development. We are good at supporting team members when things are stressful. We work co-operatively with both family members and health and social care professionals. Support service users with learning disabilities and complex need and additional mental and physical health issues. They gave us information about improvements in the last twelve months: Have a greater understanding of the needs of the service users and how to meet these in paticular when service users are distressed using positive behaviour Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 approaches. Built positive relationships with families and health professionals involved with the people we support. Improved systems and developed Health Action Plans and supported people to access more community based activities. Been more involved with local community and taken part in a five aside charity football match. The whole team have developed and have more confidence in running the shifts and organising service users days. The service user guide and statement of purpose have been re written to reflect the change in our service. They also told us what they could do better: Ensure all staff continue to develop further knowledge of needs of service users. We received survey forms from four people who lived in the home. They had completed them with help from a member of staff. Three people told us that they had been asked if they wanted to move into the home. They all said that they had been given enough information to decide whether it was the right place for them. They said that they made decisions about what they did each day and could do what they wanted during the day and evening. Three people said that they could do what they wanted at weekends. One person said that there were not always enough staff on duty at weekends to take them on day trips and these had to be planned ahead. They all knew who to talk to if they were not happy and they knew how to make a complaint. They said that the home was always fresh and clean, the staff treated them well and the staff listened to them and acted upon what they said. We asked people what the home does well. They told us: Staff do well supporting my illness they do very well. Keep my own flat clean. Varied activities. The staff worked well. We asked people what the home could do better. Comments included: Help me find more friends. Nothing. Sometimes the noise can make me unhappy. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. We looked at the information in the AQAA and the surveys and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people who use the service.
