What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. The last key inspection was made in June 2007. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. Since the last inspection, the home has made a number of improvements as a result of suggestions from the people who use the service. Examples are: They have invited other heads of department to the quarterly meetings with the people living in the home. The manager said in the returned AQAA that improvement has been made to the pre admission assessment to determine care needs and from that form a detailed care plan, which is reviewed monthly. Administration of medication, all nurses have an annual drug assessment. They ensure all medication is used appropriately and disposed of in a safe manner. They provide pressure relieving equipment and compile a monthly report on any pressure sores in the home and an nutritional issues. These are followed up by the regional clinical development nurse. The manager said they provide a variety of activities, which helps people to have social contact should they wish. There is always the opportunity given for people to express Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 their own wishes. The home have a mini bus, which provides transport for outings. They ensure that staffing levels reflect the peoples needs, having a skill mix to match. They follow a robust recruitment strategy making sure that people will be safe. Ensuring a criminal record check is completed and 2 up to date references are obtained before commencement of employment. The home have a programme of maintenance carried out both internally and externally. They have outside service contracts to keep equipment maintained and safe to use. Health and safety meetings held on a quarterly basis to discuss any issues that have occurred. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that the service continues to provide excellent outcomes for the people who use it. We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 2nd June 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
