Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received since the last key inspection of March 2009. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment document (AQAA) that was completed and sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment document that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for those people who use the service. We sent out comment cards to residents and staff asking for their views on the care and facilities provided. We received 3 comment cards back from staff. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and the management have a legal responsibility to send them to us. The previous key inspection report that showed the home was rated as good. What has this told us about the service? Management sent us their annual quality assurance assessment in December 2009. The information provided shows how the home is managed, what improvements management have made and their plans for the next 12 months. Some of the improvements they told us about were: They have done more work on developing the care plan documentation to ensure that there is detailed, person centred information for the staff. This will ensure that the individual needs and routines of the residents are more easily identified and acted upon. They have introduced a more varied range of activities for the residents so that they can get more enjoyment out of their day. They continue to improve the environment so that the residents can live in pleasant, safe and comfortable surroundings. They have provided a summer house in the garden for the use of residents and their relatives. Great importance continues to be attached to staff training. We were told that all the staff have achieved their NVQ level 2 or 3 qualification in care. This ensures that the residents are cared for safely and properly. They have achieved the Investors in People Award which is a nationally recognised award for quality. Some of the comments from the staff comment cards were: We look after the residents needs well. The family are always included in anything that is going on in the home. Staff told us that they felt supported by management and that the training they received was good and relevant to the work that they did. No complaints have been made to us about the home and we have had no cause to visit since the last inspection. Our judgement is that the staff are still providing a good service for the people living at Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 the home. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The Care Quality Commission will continue to monitor information about this service and will carry out an inspection when required.
