Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we had received, or asked for since the last key inspection in November 2008. This included: . The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was completed and sent to us by service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for those people who use the service. . Feedback surveys returned to us by those using the service and from staff. . Information we have about how the home manages any complaints. . What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. . The previous inspection report. . Relevant information from other organisations. . What people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment within the timescale given for completion. The information provided showed us what improvements the home has made and their plans for the future. For example, staff have undertaken training on The Mental Capacity Act and dementia training. That care plans are kept up to date and reviewed and changes made as required to ensure the needs of the residents are met. Plans for the future include: more trips out of the home, involving residents to assist in the garden and to continue with staff training. Our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service for the people living at the home. As part of the review we asked people who use the service and staff to complete our surveys telling us what they think about the home. We received completed surveys from seven residents and from nine staff. People living at the home indicated they are happy there. One said, The care is good and the staff are helpful and friendly and visitors are made welcome. Everything at Norfolk House is fine, I am very happy here. Another said, I am very happy here, I have everything I need. I go out when I want, my family are made welcome, I never want to leave. Staff comments were positive one said, The home gives a safe, caring environment, with long term staff who are well trained and committed. It feels like home and one big family. Another said, The home gets good feedback from residents families. It puts the needs and preferences of the residents first. Staff confirmed that they receive the necessary training which is Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 relevant to their role and that they are kept up to date with new ways of working. Feedback is gathered by the home through their own quality assurance systems, which includes good communication with residents, questionnaires and residents/ relatives meetings. The management of the home remains stable. There has been no complaints made to the manager of the home within the last twelve months. Information on the AQAA told us that mandatory staff training is up to date and that training for NVQs is ongoing. The manager informs us of any events, which may occur and manages any problems arising in a professional manner. The manager works well with us and has shown that the service continues to provide outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The Care Quality Commission will continue to monitor information about this service and will carry out an inspection when required.
