What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for since the last key inspection. This included, The annual quality assurance assessment, the aqaa whichwas sent to us by the manager Susan Vicks. The aqaa is a self-assessment that is filled in once a year by all providers and it is one of the main ways that we will get information from providers about how they are meeting outcomes for people living at the service. The aqaa also provides us with statistical information about the individual service and trends and patterns in social care and what developments are planned. We also look at information we may have about how the service and how they have managed any complaints. We also look at what the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. We also consider any relevant information from other organisations and what other people have told us about the home. A sample of surveys were sent to people who live at the home, staff and relevant health and social care professionals to complete, to gain their opinions about Numast Park care home. What has this told us about the service? The manager sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (aqaa). It was clear and detailed and gave us the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the aqaa and our judgment based on this document shows that the home is still providing an excellent level of support. The aqaa shows that the company are clear about what the home does well and since the last visit to the service, improvements and developments have been made. The aqaa told us that the people they are supporting are supported by a core staff team who have been with them for a long time. At the time of writing this report we had received 6 comment cards from staff who gave mixed opinions overall about the home. Three people felt their induction covered everything they needed to do the job and 3 people felt they induction mostly covered everything they needed. Five staff indicated they knew what to do if they or someone they supported had any concerns and they knew how to support them with this. Three people indicated they, always had enough staff on duty to do their job appropriately, 2 people felt they usually had enough staff and 1 person felt they sometimes had enough staff to be able to do their job. Various comments from staff included, I think the home has got everything it needs and not really alot could be done as there is everything a home could need. I love the home....I feel proud and safe to work at Mariners. Our home is extremely well equipped and lucky enough to always be fully staffed, it is a modern and purpose built in beautiful grounds, very good activties..... The home is always kept clean and spotless which is very important, not only for residents but for visitors, the food is first class. Mariners Park care home is in my opinion the best nursing home I have worked in.....the manager is also accessible and supportive in the area of staff welfare. Other comments and suggestion included, Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 All the different departments pull together when needed, ie emergencies, staff shortages and functions. suggestions from staff to improve the service included a comment saying, ...improve communication between staff members and departments. We have received 2 comments cards from people living at Numast Mariners Park Care home and 1 comment card from a relative in which they have given mixed opinions about the home. We asked, do you receive the care and support you need?, 2 people indicated they, usually do. We asked, are staff available when you need them?2 people indicated, usually. We also asked within the comment cards, do you like meals at the home? 2 people indicated, usually. We also asked, Do you know how to make a complaint? 1 person indicated, yes and 1 person indicated, no Various comments were made and included, ....generally care is pretty good. ...staff sometimes take some time to get to you or return to you but on the whole they are good. ....sometimes find it difficult to have my shopping done.... Staff always very busy, difficult to get them sometimes, majority of them are very good. ....but on the whole no complaints, pretty good. Comments raised within this report should be reviewed with both staff, residents and relatives to gain further opinions so that management can give people feedback about their comments and suggestions about their home. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? At this present time we are not going to change our inspection plan. We plan to do a key (main) inspection by 19th November 2011. However we may change this date and choose to inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using it.
