What the care home does well The five bedroomed extension provides people with large ensuite rooms, spacious corridors and a large lounge/garden rooms, with access to a very pleasant rear garden. Bedroom 15, which is included in the registered numbers is also able to be used. What the care home could do better: Due to the ongoing building work some of the rooms do not currently have a pleasing view, however this is for a short time only and will be explained to people. Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 8 What we found: The purpose of this inspection was to look at the five bedroomed ground floor extension with a view to it being used prior to the full extension being registered. In using these rooms it facilitates the ongoing building work to take place as they need to do work in some of the existing bedrooms and allows for the occupancy of the home to remain at a reasonable level. We met with the provider, the manager and also the building contactor. We looked around the new wing, which provides five spacious ensuite rooms, which are fully equipped and decorated. Bathrooms and showers are also fully operational. There is a large lounge/garden room with patio doors leading to a very pleasant garden. The emergency call system was tested and building control, fire certificates, emergency lighting and electrical installation certificates were made available following the visit to the service. A copy of the building control certificate was made available, which details partial building control approval for the five bedroomes south wing extension, this was dated 15/3/10. In additon, we have also received correspondence from the provider confirming that all rooms are fully compliant, that there would be no increase in numbers and that the appropriate certification is in place. Advise was taken from the regional registration team, who advised a visit to the service and to obtain copies of the safety certificates. It was advised if we then thought this was suitable then we go ahead and allow the rooms to be used. This was also discussed with local area manager, Christine Wharton. On receipt of the safety certificates and confirmation from the manager of the service that the paper towel dispensers and soft soap dispensers had been installed in the bathrooms, shower rooms and toilets, verbal permission was given to use the five bedroomed extension. A further bedroom that has undergone refurbishment but was part of the existing build is able to be used. It is confirmed that there is no increase in numbers at this time. In allowing this area to be used, it enables all people who live at Nunthorpe Oaks to access the rear garden. It was made clear that by giving approval of this area to be used, this in no way means a future application will automatically be approved as this will be dependant on communal space and category of registration. The registration process and timing of submitting the application was also discussed and the build is nearly at a stage whereby the application will be submitted.
