Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection, which was carried out on 16 October 2007 and the last Annual Service Review which was carried out on the 9 October 2008. Other information we looked at included; The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. Information we received from surveys that were sent out to service users, staff, health care professionals and other stakeholders. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) on time. This was well completed and gave us all the information we asked for. Currently the service is accommodating 5 service users. 4 service users returned surveys and all responded positively. They told us they can make their own decision about what they do each day. We also received surveys from 5 members of staff who told us that they are given training, which is relevant to their role and this helps them to understand and meet the individual needs of service users. The last key inspection and the AQAA shows that the home has policies and procedures available for residents regarding complaints and the AQAA told us that the home has not received any complaints in the last 12 months. The home has told us that in the last 12 months they have increased the range of occupational opportunities for residents, with 2 different residents now attending a total of 4 different work placements. All residents have enrolled on age and ability appropriate college courses for September 2009. The home has also identified areas where they could do better and told us that during the course of the next year, they plan to have discussions with two residents on the possibilities of them moving to smaller accommodation. They told us that they intend to explore further ways to improve the communication opportunities for the three residents with limited verbal communication, to enable them better to express their Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 feelings and preferences. The home also intends to increase the range of in house activities and to widen the range of community activities for residents. From the information available to us our judgement is that Oaklea is still providing a good service and the home continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and we will do a key inspection by 13 October 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
