What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by the four people using the service. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection. Relevant information from other organisations. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It gave us some, but not all the information we needed to complete the review. We looked at the information in the AQAA, and after speaking at length to the registered manager, our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. We asked the manager about how the previous requirements and recommendations made at the last key inspection had been addressed. She was able to tell us in each case what she had done to make improvements in each of the areas we discussed. This was around improving some documentation, staff recruitment, induction and training, how the service manages risk to people living there, and how their views about the way the home runs are listened to and acted upon. All four people living at the service returned their surveys. They made positive comments when asked about what the home does well, such as Cleaning, look after us, Make life very comfortable and other peoples life comfortable. There were no comments made about what the home could do better. Everyone answered yes when asked questions like Were you asked if you wanted to move into the home, Can you do what you want to do during the day, on an evening, and at the weekend, Do you know who to speak to if you are not happy, and Do the care staff and manager treat you well. The majority said care staff and the manager listen and act on what they say, and that they know how to make a complaint. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. For instance, they told us about a safeguarding concern they had referred to the local authority so this could be investigated promptly. They work well with us and have shown us that Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? It is our statutory responsibility to inspect all care services at least once every three years. Therefore we are not planning to inspect this service before 23 October 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
