Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned by to us by three people living at the home. Surveys returned to us by by two relatives of residents living at the home. Surveys returned to us by three members of the staff team. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What has this told us about the service? The service sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service to the people who live there. People living at the home always tell us that they are happy living there and are very well cared for by a caring, supportive and kind staff team. This means that residents are comfortable and relaxed that helps to ensure that they experience as good a quality of life as possible. One resident told us that the home, Looks after you smashing, meals and everything are really great. Its perfect. I love coming here its really great, couldnt find anywhere better. Another person said, They supply good fresh food, they care for you in every way, just class care in every way. Comments from relatives were equally positive. One person told us that the service provided, Excellent one to one personalised care. Liaison with me as a relative to ensure wishes and needs are met. Good home cooked food with personal choices catered for. Celebratory events involving family i.e. birthdays, Christmas etc. Attention to personal care needs of clients. Homely atmosphere (small scale) not too many service users. The same person went on to say, I would be hard pressed and over pedantic to criticise. No-one is perfect but this home is excellent in my view. I am Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 extremely happy with the care my mother has received from every member of the team at the Rathmore. Another relative said, **** is well cared for in mind and body, well bathed and always clean. Good caring staff, plenty of food with choices and variety, all home made. As family we are welcomed into all areas of the home. The AQAA told us that further in-house training had been provided to include specific medical conditions such as diabetic care updates. A number of activity items have been purchased to help residents interact with each other and to stimulate memory, and that flat screen televisions have been placed in communal areas of the home and individual bedroom accommodation. We were also told that staff have been updated with regard to Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards procedures and the management team is currently trying to secure an in-house, certificated distance learning package. This important training will help to equip staff with the understanding and knowledge to be more confident about Deprivation of Liberty issues in order that residents are protected. We were also informed about future plans to further enhance the service provided. The pre admission assessment system is to be re-visited to make sure that this remains current and appropriate for the resident group that is accommodated at the home. Residents families are to be asked if they felt the admission process of their relative into the home could have been made more simple and less stressful, all residents will have digital televisions in their bedroom so that they can access all the new television channels with ease, and the dining room is to be redecorated. The staff group at the Rathmore Care Home have worked at the home for a long period of time and know the individual residents needs and requirements very well. This is a real strength of the service that is homely, supportive and person centred. Staff always speak very highly of the home and the quality of care given. One member of staff told us, The home provides a warm, family environment in which all residents needs are met. Also it is a wonderful place to work. Another member of staff simply said , The Rathmore is very good about being flexible, I enjoy working here. A third person told us, What can I say, its a lovely atmosphere, its caring, loving, like home from home. Everyone is well looked after and cared for. The AQAA showed that no complaints had been made to the home in the last twelve months. The Commission also received no concerns or complaints about the service. The registered manager at the Rathmore Care Home continue to let us know about anything that affects the health or welfare of people living at the home. The notifications show us that the registered manager manages issues well. We looked at the information in the AQAA and other information we have received over the last twelve months and our judgement is that the home is still providing a very good service for the people who live there. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The Care Quality Commission will continue to monitor information about this service and will carry out an inspection when required.
