Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We sent the service an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment or AQAA. This is a document for the service to complete to tell us about the way they operate, what they have improved since we visited and what they plan to do in the coming 12 months; We looked at the last Key Inspection report and the reports of any visits we may have done in the last year; We looked at the information we have received about the service, including any safeguarding alerts or complaints. We looked at the way the home managed these; We sent questionnaires to the people who use the service; and we sent questionnaires to the people who work at the home. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their Annual Quality Assurance Assessment when we asked for it. It gave us the information we required. They told us that since our last visit they have improved communication systems; developed a more creative approach to care planning for social activities and developed the key worker role; increase the personalisation of the environment; accessed an NVQ assessor to ensure staff can complete their National vocational qualifications; provide extra staff training specific to the needs of the people living at the home; and improved the health and welfare of the people they care for. They also told us that they plan to further develop the communication systems and staff training to support this; make the care plans more accessible; continue to develop the environment of the home and build a recreation chalet in the grounds; continue to supoport staff professional development and minimise staff turnover; the home manager is to complete her National vocational qualifications at level 4 (Management level) and the team leader is to complete her assessors award. People told us the home was good at: Rawlyn House has a good team who work there There are no concerns with the care given to the residents. Very person centred - needs of xxxxxx are well identified and met. Able to be flexible and adaptable to fluctuating health needs, good at recording and sharing between staff and also with other staff. Good at trying to provide the best quality of life, accessing local community and environment and for seeing oportunities for trips out. High quality individualised care and good communication Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 has a clean, safe environment for the residents The home provides a very positive environment for all the people we care for. People also felt the home could do better at: Offering more regular training courses, in communication skills, autism awareness, moving and handling, more staff meetings and stabilise the staff turnover Improve the TV reception Provide an appropriate holiday for the people who live at the home Get the staffing levels right. The home told us they have received no complaints in the last year, and have made one safeguarding referral which remains under investigation. The home acted to support a person living at the home and have co-operated fully with the investigation undertaken as a result. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We have not changed our mind about the service and will carry out a Key Inspection by the 20th March 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns for the people who use it.
