Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received since the last key inspection. This included: --The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well the service meets the needs of people living there. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. --6 surveys returned to us by people using the service (7 requested). --Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. --What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service. These are called notifications and are a legal requirement. --The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last twelve months. --Relevant information from other organisations. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and comprehensive, giving us all the information we asked for. Currently the service is accommodating seven service users. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that Robert House is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they can still make. We have been informed that the process has commenced for a change in arrangements for the registered manager. The current manager has made application for a cancellation of her registration and the application for a new manager is imminent. Three requirements were made as a result of the last inspection, two involving training of staff and one dealing with prompt response to repairs and maintenance matters. A senior member of staff informed us that after the last inspection all urgent maintenance issues were attended to including boxing in hazardous pipe work, resolving the shower drain odour, replacing a shower head, and repairing a bedroom wall. The kitchen has been modernised and the boot room made a safer environment. A number of student bedrooms have received new furniture. New bathroom cabinets have been purchased after discussion with students. Students have requested improved IT facilities and more fitness equipment. The Centre has sanctioned the purchase of a Wii Fit. Improvements to the conservatory are still under discussion with the students. We were told that the periodic loss of electrical power that Robert House Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 was experiencing last year has been attended to. The AQAA told us that the service is developing with greater involvement of the management with the students themselves. The employment of a full time and dedicated Training Coordinator has enabled a more structured approach to training for the staff team. Each of the service users who responded to the surveys said they knew who they could talk with if they were unhappy about anything and they also knew how to make a complaint. However two students said they were not asked if they wanted to move into Robert House and were not given enough information about the home before they moved in. All said they could not make any choices about what they do from Monday to Friday during the day (as they are at college) but did have some choice in the evenings and at weekends. Two said the staff and managers always treat them well and four said they usually did. Four felt that staff always or usually listen and act on what they say and two felt they did sometimes. One felt it would be better if the staff let us come to our own decisions. To the question about ideas for possible improvements another said nothing. The service continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection. Notified incidents have been reported. The service has fully co-operated and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and we will do a key inspection by 8 December 2010. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
