Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 8 What we found: During this random inspection of the service we looked at the outcome areas for personal and health care support and concerns, complaints and protection. Prior to our visit the manager had completed an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA). This document gave the service the opportunity to tell us what they felt they did well, what improvements they had made over the last 12 months and their plans for improvement over the next 12 months. The AQAA also contained some numerical information that we requested. We saw that each person had their own file that contained their personal information, risk assessments, health action and care plan. One person living at the home showed us their file. A second file was also looked at. We saw that the care plans were detailed and contained specific information of how people wanted their day to day support delivering. We saw that the health action plans were detailed and contained information about identified health care professionals involved in the individuals life. We saw that the risk assessments that formed part of peoples care plans were detailed and reviewed on a regular basis. We saw that care plans were reviewed on a regular basis which ensure that they contain up to date information. We saw that policies and procedures were in place to help ensure that peoples medication was managed appropriately. We looked at a selection of the MARs and saw that they had been completed appropriately. We saw that information was available about what certain medicines were used for and any possible side effects and contraindications that the medicine may cause. The manager told us that all staff have completed a 12 week training course on medication which was provided through Halton Council by Shropshire college. We saw that they had a written complaints procedure that was available within the home. The manager told us that they were in the process of developing a pictorial complaints procedure to meet peoples differing abilities. They told us that the complaints procedure was discussed at house meetings. We spoke to four people during our visit and all they all told us that they knew who to speak to if they were not happy and knew how to make a complaint.
