Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. People living in the home and their relatives tell us that they are happy there. we sent out a small number of surveys and results show us that people are happy with the service provided at the home. People said: I could not wish for better care for my mother. In my mothers words arent I lucky to be here If anything happens I can send for somebody. I feel safe here - more than I have ever been. The girls her are lovely. They make me laugh! I have a comfy bed. I like the meals. The manager wrote in the AQAA about environmental improvements they have made over the last twelve months: We have worked hard to refurbish the home and some areas have been decorated and we have also recarpeted in some bedrooms. We have completed work on the garden area to make it more secure. We complete regular risk assessments of all areas of the building to ensure the safety of the residents. We have installed a new hairdressers sink to make it easier and a more pleasant experience for the residents. We have received good feedback with comments such as I think the staff and environment are very friendly and My dad tells everyone how wonderful the home and staff are. There is also an established system for seeking peoples views to help identify where further improvements can be made. The manager wrote in the AQAA: Our annual survey has been reviewed and made more user friendly. This has been sent out this year to all families and residents and already the results of the 2009 survey has been collated and published, this will be repeated in 2010. Feedback from the surveys was positive with comments such as Staff are friendly, helpful, kind and caring and My Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 mum is forever saying how good the girls are. There is a committment to staff training so that staff have the knowledge to look after people properly. Recent training around mental capacity and deprivation of liberty training. This training means that staff will have a greater awareness of individual rights and liberties. There is stability and consistancy from the manager and from staff, many of whom have worked at thehome for a number of years. The manager wrote in the AQAA: Our values remain constant - and have done, since the business started in 1987. We strive to operate a care home that is run with compassion, one that every family would be happy to be associated with and where qualified, caring management and staff ensure privacy, dignity, choice, rights and independence and fulfilment for every resident of St Armands Court. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 2nd February 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
