What the care home does well We looked at the same sample of care plans that we had looked at during our previous inspection visit and noted that improvements had been made. These improvements ensured that individual care needs were more specific for staff to follow. We also looked at risk assessments that we had asked to be put in place for some service users and found that they were satisfactory. The home has also put into place a system to ensure that medication is dispensed in a safe manner for service users who take social leave or who self medicate. We also noted that recommendations made at the last inspection had been followed. For example: requests for assisted technology had been followed up and people had technology in place to help meet their needs. The care of catheters was recorded in more detail in individual care plans. Known allergies were recorded on Medication Administration Records. A redecoration plan was in place and new furniture was being ordered. The manager has registered with the Care Quality Commission. What the care home could do better: We looked at some care plans that had been prepared for people who had been admitted to the service since our last visit and found that some of them had not been written in a person centered way. We asked the manager to make sure that improvements were made to ensure that care plans were written in a consistent manner and reflected a person centered approach. The visit took place on 24 August 2010. Two inspectors completed the visit. The purpose of this visit was to monitor progress against the requirements made at the last random inspection visit completed 19 & 27 May 2010. Before the visit took place we looked at the information we had received about the home since our last visit. This information included notifications sent to us from the service, how the service had dealt with any complaints or concerns and any changes that had been made to the management of the service. During the visit we talked to people who use the service and people who worked in the service. We observed care practices in the home and looked at documents and records held by the home that related to how peoples needs were being met. At the end of our visit we spoke to the person in charge about what we had found.
