What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or requested since the last key inspection in December 2008. This included: The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment, (known as the AQAA). The AQAA is a self- assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people living in the home. Surveys were returned to us by 1 resident and 2 members of staff. What the home has told us about things that have happened in the home, these are known as notifications and are a legal requirement. What has this told us about the service? The homes Registered Manager sent us their AQAA when we asked for it. The AQAA gave us the information that we asked for. We looked at the AQAA and our judgement is that the home continues to provide good outcomes for the residents. Feedback from the resident survey indicated that they had been asked if they had wanted to move into the home and that they knew how to make a complaint. The survey also confirmed that the resident felt they could do what they wanted to do most days and evenings. The staff surveys confirmed that new staff receive an induction to the home and that they receive training. Both surveys also confirmed that the staff knew what to do if they had a concern about the home. Staff comments included: It is a professional and friendly environment and that the home does everything well. We received one constructive suggestion from a staff survey which said that the home would be better if the staff could take the residents out on day trips on a more regular basis. The AQAA does record that the home does not currently have an activities coordinator and that staff are providing activities. It also acknowledges that the home will be making improvements by offering holidays and more trips out. Both staff surveys confirmed that the correct pre-employment checks were carried out on them before they started working at the home. The AQAA recorded information about equality and diversity and said that the home would be aiming to recruit staff from different backgrounds and ensure that the staff team received training on this subject. The AQAA also noted that residents are supported to follow religious practices they might have such as visiting the church. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The AQAA also states that the home will be looking into advocacy services so that residents receive advice and support from an independent person. The AQAA recorded where the home has made imprvovements such as updating information about the home, and the pre-admission assessments that are carried out on prospective residents. The AQAA records that there are arrangements are in place for the safe handling of medication and that staff receive training via Croydon College on this subject. Medication is also checked by the Local Pharmacist. The AQAA records that there have been no complaints made and no safeguarding (adult abuse) referrals or investigations. The AQAA records that the home will be ensuring that the staff team receive refresher training on safeguarding and training on the Mental Capacity Act. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection visit and they continue to provide good outcomes for the residents living in the home. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by 1st December 2011. However we can inspect the home at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the home or the safety of the residents living in the home. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
