Annual Service Review Page 3 of 7 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. This is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. What other people have told us about the service and the results of surveys returned to us. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. We sent out surveys to people who use the service, relatives,Health care professional who visit the home and staff who work at the home. We had a good response most were received back and their comments are included in this report. The manager was contacted to verify and confirm some information. As well as the above we completed a risk assessment of the service to ensure we had enough information about the service to determine the quality rating has not changed in the past 12 months. What has this told us about the service? The manager completed the annual quality assurance assessment by the agreed date. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. The AQAA told us what the service think they do well. They received a care management assessment and a copy of a social services care plan before an individual is admitted to the home. They also have a very comprehensive pre-assessment questionnaire, which covers personal care and physical well-being, communication, mobility, continence, medication, social interests, religious, cultural needs and family involvement. This is completed before any admission, to ensure they are able to meet the needs of the individual. Care plans include various risk assessments dependent on each persons needs. All care plans are reviewed on a monthly basis and updated to reflect peoples needs. The home state that they encourage people to maintain contact with their families and friends and the local community as well as promoting peoples individuals preferences on daily living and activities. People are also encouraged to handle their own financial affairs if they wish and are able to do so. Most people bring personal belongings from home to make their rooms more homely. The AQAA told us what the home had improved since the last inspection for example; Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 they audit 5 care plans each week and medication is audited on a monthly basis. The amount of accidents has been reduced. Improved relations with the local community. The garden has been renewed with raised flowerbeds for the residents to be able to do some gardening, allotment club formed with the people who use the service, an award was won for this from the care home liaison team. The AQAA said that staffing levels had improved and more training has been given. This resulted in more staff achieving their NVQ 2 and 3,including the activity coordinator achieving her NVQ and chair based exercise course. Manager now RMA qualified and registered with CQC. The AQAA gave information about staff at the home and their qualifications. They said recruitment and selection procedure meets the requirements of legislation, equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice. All checks recommended under CQC standards are carried out prior to applicants taking up their position. All new staff members are given a copy of their job description and are given the chance to discuss or go through this if needed. They state they have a very comprehensive training programme in place within the home and that staff are given the opportunity to attend training if they feel this will develop their role. They stated that they have over 90 of staff with NVQ qualifications or working towards it. All staff have an annual appraisal and regular supervision, which identifies any training needs. This was confirmed in staff surveys we received, staff said they had an induction and training that was relevant to their role. They confirmed they received support and supervision from the manager. All comments were positive and all appear happy and enjoy working at the home. The AQAA states that the home have not received any complaints in the last twelve months. The complaints procedure is displayed within the home, it is also included in the service user guide which all people receive when coming into the home. All complaints are recorded and responded to within 28 days. They also complete an audit on a monthly basis on complaints and evaluate the results to improve the service. Surveys received from people within the home and relatives confirmed they knew who to speak to if they had any concerns and were aware of the complaints procedure. This is what we were told in the surveys we received. People using the service told us they receive the care and support they need and that staff are available when they need them. We received a lot of positive comments when asked what the home does well for example;friendly and homely atmosphere. staff are kind and helpful and we are well cared for.happy with all the care we receive.Im very happy and contented living at the home. Surveys returned from relatives said they feel the home meets the needs of their relative and that they receive the care they expected. They also said that the home kept them informed and up to date with any care issues. Comments included I am quite happy and they all seem well looked after.Im very satisfied with the Beeches and staff. Surveys from health care professionals who visit the home were also very positive in their comments saying that staff were welcoming and approachable also Annual Service Review Page 5 of 7 communication was good with the home. They also felt that staff promoted independence where safe and possible to do so. they felt that staff treated people with dignity and respect. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? It is our Statutory responsibility to inspect all care service at least once every 3 years.
