Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 7 What we found: This was a short random inspection that focussed on the lifestyle experienced by residents and staffing. Time was spent with the acting A grade, the acting service manager and staff and residents were spoken to. 10 resident surveys and 5 staff surveys were received by the Commission. Residents received assistance from the home staff in completing the surveys and overall these and the staff surveys provided positive comments about the home. All residents have an individual person centred plan that clearly identifies their likes, dislikes and aspirations. Each individual has a weekly timetable that reflects their interests and preferences. These include activities ranging from aromatherapy, art and crafts, football, athletics, gardening, shopping and swimming. One resident has paid work within the village and steps are being taken to secure a paid job for him at a local supermarket. This resident was able to tell me about the process and was clearly excited by the prospect of working outside of the village. The daily routines are flexible according to individual commitments and preferences. A weekly residents meeting is held to discuss menu options, activities attended and any other issues that residents would like to bring. This meeting was described as well attended and where residents were willing and able to talk about a range of topics. The manager has recently recruited a staff member and that now completes the staff team. The home has been short of drivers for some time but now has a complement of four, which will enhance the range of activities on offer. Staff spoken to said they felt well supported in the home. There is a schedule of one to one supervisions and regular staff meetings are held. The training provided by the organisation is extensive and well managed. The team was described as supportive and overall the home was a rewarding place to work.
