What did we do for this annual service review? An annual service review is a report that we write for services that we have rated as good or excellent and have not had a key inspection in the last year. This report does not routinely include a visit to the service. The review is an analysis of all the information that we have gathered about the service since the last main inspection. Every year the registered manager is asked to provide us with written information about the quality of the service they provide by completing an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA). The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gives us some numerical information about the service. We have used information from surveys returned to us by people using the service and information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. We also got information from what the manager has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. This information is used in part to focus our annual service review. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their AQAA when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing an excellent service and they know what improvements they need to make. Eleven people using the service completed one of our surveys and made the following comments. They care for physical, social and spiritual well being which is very important to mother. Mother chose this home herself whilst in full possession of her faculties. She has always had the fullest confidence in the care and love she gets here. Everyone does the best to their ability and I am quite happy here. The quality of care is entirely satisfactory, it suits my needs well. I came for a short stay after hospital and I requested to stay permanently. My needs are satisfied thank you. I am happy to call this place my home. I have never had any reason to complain about anything. I love my relative being here, they make sure she is well looked after and that we have no grounds to worry about her. They make you feel at home. The food is good and they look after us well. Everything here is good, food entertainment. I cant think of anything they could do Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 better at the moment. The food is good, one of the staff reads to me and reciting poetry is something I really enjoy. Food is good and I have a nice room. The food is good and they look after us well. The home cares for everything I need by good staff with a sense of humour and patience. Staff welcome guests. Being able to hear the Mass and other chapel services even if Im unable to attend them through sickness or frailty. The love and care of sisters who pray with me which is very thoughtful. Everything is fine and we are all well looked after. I am close to my family so they can visit often. I wouldnt like to be anywhere else. The AQAA told us they ensure the views of the people using the service are promoted and incorporated into what they through regular manager informal chats with the residents so that she can pick up any problems or concerns. There are regular one to one meetings with residents and Sister Anna sits with residents each morning for tea or coffee and listens to any requests they might have. Mother General visits once or twice a month and visits to see if there are any concerns. Care plans are updated with residents and relatives involvement. The AQAA also told us of the changes they made as a result of listening to people like improving access in the home to promote independence, Holy Communion being taken to residents bedrooms, the introduction of a loop system for those who are hard of hearing and the introduction of aids and adaptations that have promoted safer working practices for the staff and residents. Nine staff who completed our staff surveys made the following comments. We look after the residents. Management display good leadership and are approachable. They ensure all shifts are covered efficiently. Training courses are provided. We have a warm, friendly and welcoming environment. care plans are easy to follow and residents have a variety of activities and get out and about It would be difficult to improve the level of care but we would implement any recommendations if it is in the best interest of the residents and staff. Excellent working conditions under the guidance of a very dedicated and loyal manager. This is an excellent care home. The residents are very well looked after they are given all the support and help they need. The home is a clean, warm, and comfortable place to live. It is a first rate social care home. The home does well by making the residents feel like it is their home. Staff and management make sure visitors are looked after by offering tea and biscuits. I am very happy working here. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 7 The home meets the religious needs of the residents very well. Meals are of a high standard as well as the care we give. This is a very caring environment with plenty of experienced staff who are very supportive to all the needs of the sisters, ladies and staff. I am a cleaner, everyone is kind and caring to me and the residents are very well looked after. Sister Anna is the kindest person. All aspects of care, good relationships with staff, good social activities for residents. Everything seems to be well covered. According to the AQAA they try to keep the residents happy through listening and keeping the home like a home. Staff and managers are well trained and staff have been put on extra courses to meet the residents needs . Because the home is part of a world wide organisation the development plan for the home is ongoing and based on a systematic cycle of planning that reflects the aims and outcomes for people using the service. Policies and procedures are updated regularly and the manager told us that they will continue to listen to the views of people using the service so their needs can be fully met. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and will do a key inspection by the 17th March 2011. However we can inspect the service at anytime if we have concerns about the quality of the service or safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 6 of 7 Reader Information
