Annual Service Review Page 3 of 7 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We have used the Annual Quality Assurance Assessment (AQAA.) This is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. The Annual Quality Assurance Assessment that was returned to us by the service. We sent out surveys to people using the service, staff and external professionals. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection report. What has this told us about the service? We received the AQAA as requested and this provided with information about the service. We sent out a number of survey forms to the service users, the staff and other care professionals. We have received a good response from the people that we surveyed as part of this review. This included six service users, three healthcare professionals and seven staff surveys. Information from the AQAA states that as part as listening to people, the service has changed the timing of the teatime meal, the garden facility has been improved with seating available. A new television aerial has been put in place to improve television reception in the service users bedrooms. Access to the garden has also been improved with a ramp. The service is planning to include a wet shower area that will facilitate access and meet the preferred needs of people accommodated. As part of their internal quality assurance, the service sought the views of the service users and external agents. This showed that they had a positive response to their surveys. We have received a good response to the surveys that we did as part of this review. Some of the comments from people we surveyed included: The health and social care professionals tell us that the home usually respect the privacy and dignity of people and respond to their diverse needs. Another comment was the service always supports people to live the life they choose wherever possible. Service users comments included: Provides a caring family atmosphere. Very kind and caring. A relative response to what does the service does well was everything. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 7 Everything is good except for the bed which is not comfortable. Meals, carers are very nice. The place is always clean. Comments from the staff were that they had information about how to support people and an induction when they started work. They say that all things are done well and if there are any issues, they are dealt with at the time in an appropriate manner. What the service does well included such comments as: I feel that the home has a happy family atmosphere and meets the needs of the residents. Healthy balanced meals are provided to the service users. Service users birthdays and Christmas parties. Rights of choice. Interacting well with the relatives. All things in the home are done to a high standard, if not they are dealt with in appropriate ways. What the service could do better included: More staff meeting, and two staff members stated that they would like better communications between staff excluding management. More one to one. More staff when needed. Some of the areas of concerns from the staff were that there was a lack of staff, especially to cover for sickness. More training was needed to include first aid. Staff should be provided with appropriate sleeping facility as part of their sleeping in duty. Not just pull out camping bed outside the office and lift. Staff tell us that they would like the hours worked changed the sleeping in staff stay and work until four OClock in the afternoon. We have information that the medication cupboard need locking also. This is an area that the registered person must take immediate action to ensure that people are not put at risks of harm. Another staff comment was that the food could be better and there was a lack of staffing. Comment was some of the residents need nursing home as we are only carers and we dont have the time that they need. The AQAA states that the service has twelve permanent carers and ten of them have Annual Service Review Page 5 of 7 achieved the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at level 2 and above. Information form the AQAA showed that the registered person is planning training in the prevention of abuse for the staff. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and we will carry out a key inspection according to our risk based inspection approach and information we receive. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of people at the service.
