Two of the units provide care to service users, both younger adult and older persons with dementia, the third unit provides long term care to older people with physical frailities. The fourth unit provides short term care / rehabilitation to older people who have recently been discharged from hospital with a planned return to living in the

The home provides a range of dining facilities and lounges and is situated on a shared site near the Headland of Hartlepool and is close to local amenities. The home surrounds a central garden area and there is a large car park for visitors. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review:
What did we do for this annual service review? We examined the homes Annual Quality Assurance Assessment, which is the homes self-assessment of its performance to date. We looked at surveys that people who use the service and staff had completed and returned to us with their comments. We considered notifications made by the service and sent to us about significant events. We reviewed the findings of the last key inspection carried out on 2nd December 2008. What has this told us about the service? West View Lodge continues to do well against most of the National Minimum Standards concerning Older People, in terms of positive outcomes for the people who use the service. People who use the service and their representatives say that they are happy living at West View Lodge. Typical comments received from people who use the service and staff included: The home provides care and assistance to a top level. The home does everything well; I have no complaints at all. We strive to best support each individual within the home. We have a person centred approach to care. Each resident is treated with respect and dignity. The home has good professional relationships with external health and social care agencies. The service is well managed and there are good quality assurance systems in place, with support from external senior managers provided by the Four Seasons Healthcare Group. The home has a good staff team of well trained personnel. Most care staff have gained qualifications in Care at National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) level 2 or above, or are working towards the award. There are good staff induction and training programmes organised by the home, including dementia care, dementia care mapping and person centred care. The home is working towards accreditation with the Gold Standards Framework for end of life care. The service has a Dignity Champion. The personal care provided is good. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The service is progressing well and its Quality rating continues to be good. There is no intention to carry out a key inspection of West View Lodge before December 2010.
