Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) shortly after we asked for it. It gives a clear and picture of how the home aims to meet the needs of the people that it cares for. The information in the AQAA shows that the support the home provides is based on the the individual needs of the people who live at Westonville Lodge. For example, we have been told that one person missed their houseplants when moving to the home. This person was supported to buy plants for the home. In addition they were given the opportunity to be responsible for looking after the plants, which makes them feel valued. After looking at the information provided in the AQAA, it is our judgement that the home is still providing a good service and that they know what further improvements they need to make. We asked the home to send out surveys to all nine people who currently live in the home. Two surveys were returned. We were told by these two people that they are always or usually able to make day to day decisions in the home. They told us that they know who to speak to if they are not happy or if they want to make a complaint. Both people responded that care staff and the home manger always treat them well and that they always or usually listen and act on what they say. Comments included: Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The home is kept looking nice, clean and fresh and warm. The staff are very caring and never mind what they do. They always sound cheerful and have a smile, and are willing to go the extra mile. They are always thinking of ways to look after us better. The only improvement this person could recommend was to switch the TV off when no one is watching it as it is so loud that you cannot always hear the doorbell. The home owner/manager has told us that the TV is now turned off for most of the day at the request of the people who live at Westonville Lodge. The home does a very good job or looking after X. A very caring home. We have not received any complaints about the home and the home has told us that they have not received any complaints either. The home has told us that they do the following to make sure that people who use the service are regularly consulted about how the home is run. We have weekly service users meetings, produce quality monitoring questionnaires and we act on the views of the service users. We have also subscribed to CareAware Advocacy Services to ensure that the service users and their families have unbiased up to date information on their care. The home manager/owner said that she is improving her computer skills to make sure that me are told about important things that have happened since our last key inspection. The home works well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 19th November 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service.
