Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information we have received or asked for since the last key inspection. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) which was completed by the registered manager. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us from people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and annual service review. What has this told us about the service? We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing an excellent service and that they know what improvements they need to make. This includes attending a higher level of training for staff in person centred planning and encouraging more people using the service to attend one of the healthy eating workshops organised by the Primary Care Trust. Four people who use the service completed a survey and all of them indicated that they received the care and support they needed and suitable leisure activities were organised for them to take part in if they wanted. One person commented on the survey, They make sure I get what I want. Another person wrote, They listen to everybody and get everybodys point of view. The relatives of one person using the service helped them to complete the survey. This told us that they were happy with the care provided at Woodleigh, were kept informed of any problems and were involved with planning daily activities. Four members of staff completed a survey. These indicated that there was enough staff to meet the individual needs of people using the service and they felt supported by the manager. One member of staff wrote on the survey, We provide a safe and secure environment while promoting independence. Another member of staff commented, There is a good atmosphere in the home, it does feel like a home and not an institution. According to the AQAA four complaints have been made to the manager during the last year and all were resolved with 28 days. One complaint has have been made directly to the Care Quality Commission about Woodleigh House in the last year. The people who completed the survey indicated that they knew who to speak to if they were unhappy about anything and knew how to make a formal complaint. All the staff who completed the survey stated that they knew what to do if a person living at the home or their relatives complained to them. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 The manager told us in the AQAA that as a result of listening to people using the service they have increased their involvement in the recruitment and induction of new employees. The AQAA provides information about staff training and told us that more than half of the care workers have National Vocational Qualifications in health and social care at level 2 or above. This confirms that a programme of staff training and development is in place to help maintain and improve the standard of care for people using the service. All the staff who completed the survey told us they received the training they needed in order to care for people living at the home in the way they preferred. The Commission has been informed of any event that affected the health and welfare of people using the service. The manager and staff have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well with us and have confirmed that their service continues to provide excellent outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? The Care Quality Commission will continue to monitor information about this service and will carry out an inspection when required.
