St Anne`s Opportunity Centre, a registered charity, is registered to provide personal care and accommodation for three younger adults who have mild to moderate learning difficulties and complex emotional needs. What the care home does well The service makes sure that it writes things down very carefully so that everybody knows what people need and how staff are going to help them. The home make sure that people are helped in a way that they prefer by asking them to agree to how they are to be helped and sticking to the ways of helping them that is written down. The home has written down what help people need to make sure that they stay as healthy as they can and support people to go to the Dr or nurse and any specialists when they need to. Not many people take medicine but when people need it they are given it by staff who know how to give it safely. The home make sure that people are not badly treated by anyone, they listen to what people say to them and know what to do if they are worried that people do not feel safe. People feel safe, in the home and are happy to talk to staff if they have any worries or concerns. People who live in the home are happy to talk about their lives, some of their comments included , `I am very happy, it is a wonderful place to live. The staff are very helpful to me`, `It`s good living here, the staff treat me well and I know Joy (responsible individual) very well she would always listen to me,` `It`s quite nice here, I feel safe`. The home is run by a manager who knows what people need and keeps a close eye onpeople so she also knows if things are changing. People are very happy to talk to her and ask her to change things if they are not happy with them. The people who live in the home are very involved in making any changes to improve their lives. The home make sure that they regularly check that they are giving people the best possible care. What the care home could do better: The home continues to provide an excellent service, they continue to develop the service to enhance the lifestyles of the people who live there. Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 3 of 8 What we found: We found that the service continues to maintain the high quality of care offered and remains a home that provides excellent outcomes to people who use the service. The last inspection on this service was completed on the 3rd of May 2007. This is a report for the random inspection, which included a routine unannounced site visit to the service. This took place between 9.45 and and 12.15 pm on the the 18th of May 2010. The information was collected from an Annual Quality Assurance Assessment, a document sent to the service from the Care Quality Commission and completed by the registered manager, Helen Butterworth, surveys returned to us by the three people who use the service and six surveys returned to us by staff who work in the home. Discussions with all three people who live in the home and the the manager took place. Limited observation of people and their interactions with staff took place during the visit to the home. Reviewing records of the people who use the service and other records and procedures was also used to collect information on the day of the visit. All information received by the Commission since the last inspection, about this service was also taken into account when producing this inspection report.
