We carried out this inspection to follow up the findings of some safeguarding investigations conducted by the local authority. The issues raised concerned the use of bed rails, medication policy and staff training on the safeguarding of vulnerable adults. We talked to the manager, the service manager and a number of people who live at the home. We also looked at case files, staff training records and the homes policy on the use of bed rails. The manager has put a full staff training programme in place and all staff have been trained in safeguarding. Senior staff have also been trained in the administration of medication, though this may need to be refreshed in some cases. The homes policy on the use of bed rails is detailed and requires full risk assessments before such aids are used. Again, some staff may need to be reminded that bed rails can be used if absolutely necessary should residents safety require them.
