What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. We looked at surveys (seven) completed by people who live in the home, they were completed with the assistance of staff. We checked what the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. We looked at the previous key inspection report and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. We looked at relevant information from other organisations. We looked to see if other people have told us anything about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us all the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgement is that the home is still providing a good service. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection, such as one accident, they work well with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide good outcomes for the people who use it. The AQAA noted that there have been several developments, some as a result of listening to the views of the people who use the service. There have been developments in providing more varied activities, for instance one person now works part time and adding pictures as visual aids so that people may more easily understand the complaints procedure. The AQAA reported that some peoples rooms have been decorated to their taste, choice and need. The AQAA reported that all Polcies and Procedures are current and have been reviewed, as necessary, the AQAA stated that there are some policies that they do not have such as record keeping, food hygiene (all staff have been trained in safe food handling), contact by family and friends and access to files. It is assumed that they are not relevant to the care being offered to people, at this time. The home promotes peoples equality and diversity and have demonstrated this by ensuring that all staff have completed equality and diversity training up to level 2 and appointing a male member of staff to work 1:1 with a male person who uses the service. The seven people who live in the service returned the questionnaires we sent them, five were completed with staff help. All were completed positively and comments included, I am happy living at Downview, I think the staff are ever so nice to me, I have good food and lots of choices and they look after me quite well. The AQAA noted Annual Service Review Page 4 of 6 comments made by family and visitors as a consequence of the services Quality Assurance exercise, these included, high standards have been maintained over many years, The person I visit has lived at Downview for some years and has blossomed there,It is a unique hone in the way it has nurtured a group identity, historically and possibly the best group home there is. The home reported that one complaint had been received by them and had been dealt with, appropriately. No information about complaints or safeguarding issues have been received by the Commission since the last inspection. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by the 2nd Ocober 2010. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 5 of 6 Reader Information
