What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection. This included The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) was sent to CQC after being completed by the manager in November 2009 . The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gives us some numerical information about the service. Surveys were sent out to people using the service and other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection. What has this told us about the service? The manager completed the annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) and submitted it to the Care Quality Commission in a timely manner. The AQAA was fully completed and gave clear detail about the progress of the service over the past twelve months and looked at what improvements were planned over the next twelve months. We were told that as a result of listening to the views of people living at the home the home has introduced a shop trolley serviced by a friend of axbridge volunteer. Service users have the opportunity to purchase items from this trolley every Monday. The trolley is stocked with items requested by the Service Users allowing them independence and freedom of choice. We cater for special diets such as diabetics with sugar free items. As a result of service users expressing a desire to keep in touch with friends and relatives that live abroad or locally, they now have access to their own computer purchased by the company specifically for this purpose. Services users are able to use the internet allowing them to keep up to date with current affairs and sourcing information of specific interest. We now have a specific area that has been decorated as a hair dressing studio, this is a another focal point for services users to socialise. The service users are able to access alternative therapies from an outside private provider with full support of the GP where appropriate co ordinated by our qualified Creative Activities Therapist. We received surveys from five staff members who work at the home, and eleven people who live at the home. The forms from people living at the home were positive.
