What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection on 17 October 2008. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Surveys returned to us by people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The home sent us their annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) when we asked for it. It was clear and gave us the information we asked for. We looked at the information in the AQAA and our judgment is that the home is still providing an excellent service and that they continue to review and improve the service. The information indicated that the home has a very stable staff group as there have been no changes in this area since the last inspection. This means that people living in the home receive care from people who know them well. The home has continued to be committed to providing staff with qualifications in care and 80 of staff have achieved at least level 2 in care. People living in the home tell us that they are happy there and are well cared for. They indicate that they have good quality meals and access to activities. We received surveys from nine people who lived in the home. Comments included they spend time with the residents and take them out to places, they are good at activities, the meals are good, we are looked after well, they look after me well, the meals are done well, the staff are caring, and I get the best of everything. The only comment about what the home could do better was they should not lock the tea bags , milk and sugar away, you should be able to have a cup of tea whenever you want. It is recommended that the management review this practice to ensure that people are able to exercise choice in the drinks available to them. One staff survey was also received, this confirmed that they had received training relevant to their role and were well supported. The home continues to let us know about things that have happened since our last key inspection and they have shown that they have managed issues well. They work well Annual Service Review Page 3 of 5 with us and have shown us that their service continues to provide excellent outcomes for the people who use it. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan, and will do a key inspection by 17 October 2011. However we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of the people using the service. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 5 Reader Information
