It is a short walk from the bus station, railway station and town centre. Community and leisure amenities are also close by. The home is registered to provide care and accommodation for a maximum of three adults with mental health difficulties. The home is non operational at present, and has no service users and no staff team. The statement of purpose for this home is kept at a sister home, in the office at 68 Milton Road. 88 Nelson Road (Welcome House) DS0000028993.V332132.R01.S.doc Version 5.2 Page 5 SUMMARY This is an overview of what the inspector found during the inspection. Sarah Montgomery conducted this announced inspection on 22nd February 2007. The registered manager of the nearby Milton Road homes assisted with the visit. The home remains empty and has no staff team and no service users. The home has never operated as a care home, but remains registered should the provider decide to open it at a later stage. Standards assessed during this inspection were Standards 24 to 30 – Environmental standards. At present, the home is not fit for purpose and requires repair and refurbishment. Quality in this outcome area is poor. The home is not fit for purpose at present. This judgement has been made using available evidence including a visit to this service. EVIDENCE: A complete tour of the premises was undertaken. The findings of evidence are as follows: Garden areas (front and back). The front garden is overgrown and a potential hazard to service users. It has overgrown plants, and several beer bottles and cans were strewn around. The back garden is completely overgrown and inaccessible. It too is a potential hazard to service users. The lounge has an old style gas fire, which would require inspection from a qualified gas engineer before use. The lounge would benefit from redecoration. Downstairs bedroom. This room would benefit from redecoration. Kitchen/diner. In the kitchen and dining area wallpaper is coming off the wall. There is a damaged gas fire in the dining area. The kitchen is not sufficiently equipped to be considered fit for purpose. Downstairs WC. This room requires complete refurbishment and would benefit from redecoration. Upstairs bathroom. This room requires complete refurbishment and would benefit from redecoration. Upstairs bedroom (x2) Both rooms require redecoration. Upstairs box room. Not fit for purpose as a bedroom because of size. Hall, stairs, landings and corridors.
