The home is situated near the centre of Blackpool in a residential area close to local amenities and bus routes. The home is a large semi-detached house with ramp access at the rear of the property and seating is provided. There are single and double rooms available with a shower provided in one of the single rooms. There are two lounges with a dining area and separate kitchen. There is a statement of Purpose/Service user Guide, which is given to all prospective residents/relatives. We visited the home on the 15th of November to carry out a random inspection, the purpose of the visit was to ensure the standard of care is good and the home continues to provide positive outcomes for residents,as previous inspections have identified. We looked at the quality of care in all areas, Choice of Home, Individual Needs and Choices, Lifestyle, Personal and Health care Support, Concerns Complaints and Protection,Environment, Staffing and Conduct and Management of the Home. This is a smalll home and all the residents have lived here for a number of years. One resident assessment details we looked at contained all the relevant information to ensure a care plan could be developed.The owner said, We have the same system in place. We looked at a residents care plan and found regular reviews taking place and any changes in daily routines or risks, identified and recorded to ensure each person lives an independent lifestyle within a risk framework. At the time of the visit we observed a resident looking forward to a day trip to a relatives using public transport, when spoken to he said, I am to going to Nans. The staff supporting him said, We encourage him to use public transport as much as possible. The residents had returned from a holiday abroad on the day of the visit and were busy unpacking and getting ready for the daily routines.One resident when asked about the holiday said, I really enjoyed Teneriffe. Another said, Smashing holiday. Records show each resident has a plan of activity which may include, education or employment in the community which enables individuals to take part in community based activities or social events. Records show residents have regular contact with specialist health care services to ensure any health needs are met and treatment is monitored. People spoken to said how much they like living at Adalena House. One resident said,We are just one happy family. Adalena House has a detailed complaints procedure which is made available in the documentation provided to families and residents. There is only a small mainly part time staff,however the owner informed us they have received safeguarding training ensuring the residents are protected from any form of abuse and are safe. There have been no complaints since the last inspection or past six years. We had a walk around the home and found it to be clean and tidy and furnished to a high standard ensuring the residents live in pleasant surroundings. There has been new carpets fitted throughout the hallways and stairs, One resident commented The carpets are lovely. The owner confirmed they continue to improve the home by redecoration and new furnishings. The staff are the same as previously no new employees. The small staff team are competent and experienced to provide the care and support residents need. Looking at Care Homes for Adults (18-65 years) Page 4 of 8 training records confirm ongoing access to training is available to ensure staff develop there skills. One resident said about the staff They are very helpful. There are recruitment procedures in place to ensure should any new personnel be taken on robust checks are in place to ensure only suitable staff are employed. Observation and discussion with the owner confirm there is no formality in the day to day running of the home and residents looked relaxed and cheerful during the visit. The records we looked are well written and comprehensive ensuring each resident has the correct information in relation to health and social welfare issues.
