At the last key inspection in February 2007 this service was given an excellent 3 star quality rating. The purpose of this random inspection was to look at the quality of outcomes across all areas to ensure that the high standards identified in the report of February 2007 were being maintained. At the time of this unannounced visit to the home there were 11 people living at Chestnut Grove. The assessment information regarding an individual who has been admitted to the home since the last key inspection was viewed. An assessment of this persons needs had taken place and this was supported by documentation from health and social services. The care plan was being added to as the person settled at the home and their needs became evident. There was evidence of the involvement of a range of health and social care professionals and the records showed that staff were responsive to the requests of people living at the home. Risk assessments had been carried out, with plans then put in place regarding how any risks were to be managed. These risk management plans ensure that staff are working in a consistent manner and help to maintain the safety of the person concerned. Consideration is also given to the preferences of the individual and the right to take reasonable risks is respected. Records regarding health and personal care were viewed in relation to three people living at the home. There was evidence of involvement of a range of health professionals and on going monitoring of health needs. Care plans are in place and these are reviewed regularly. These provide good information regarding how practical and personal care needs are to be supported. The people who live at Chestnut Grove consider it to be well run and a good place to live. The food is of good quality and personal preferences are respected.
