What the care home does well
Service users` said that staff encouraged them to be independent. Staff had a good rapport with service users`. Service users who were spoken to said "staff are friendly and helpful" and this made them more approachable. Staff were clearly committed to providing good standards of care for service users so that service users were well looked after. Care planning centred around the personal wishes and preferences of service users` on how they wished to live their lives. Service users` had access to a range of activities to enable them to pursue their social and leisure interests. Service users` could see visitors whenever they wanted to do so and this helped them to maintain their relationships with family and friends. Service users` were given the opportunity to voice their views and contribute towards how the home was run.
What has improved since the last inspection?
The home has revised their policy regarding assisting service users with their finances. The home has now introduced stringent checks to ensure that wherever possible service users monies are safeguarded. Changes have also been made into how service users access their personal allowances more easily without any potential risks.
What the care home could do better:
The home should continue to maintain the high standard of care it provides as it continues to meet service users expectations and aspirations. The kitchen and lounge doors were wedged open. Both these doors are fire doors. Staff were advised to remove the wedges from the doors and that they should refrain from wedging any of the fire doors, as potentially this would put service users lives at risk in the event of a fire. Other appropriate means of retaining the fire doors open should be looked at by the organisation. The staff roster was looked at and it was unclear as to who was on duty. The roster did not accurately reflect staff not on duty through sickness/holiday or training. The registered manager should obtain NVQ level 4 in management and care.
