This inspection was carried out on 17th April 2009.

It is an annual review prepared by CQC after examining previous reports and information from the provider. At the time of this report, CQC judged the service to be Excellent.

The inspector made no statutory requirements on the home as a result of this inspection and there were no outstanding actions from the previous inspection report.

We give a quality rating following a full review of the service. If yes, what have they been: Date of last key inspection: Date of last annual service review (if applicable): Brief description of the service First registered in 1971, Crossways Community is a Christian Charitable Trust. It provides a high standard of care, support and accommodation for 16 adults aged between 18-65 who have or are recovering from a mental health problem. Annual Service Review Page 2 of 6 The Manager was registered in August 2008 Based on Christian values and community spirit, it provides a progressive service that is evolving and developing to meet the current and future needs of the residents. Crossways Community is a detached property with gardens and car parking facilities to the side of the building. The home is located in a residential area of Tunbridge Wells, close to shops and public transport with other town amenities a few minutes walk away. Accommodation is over three-storeys. There is no shaft lift. The home has sixteen single rooms, all with en-suite or designated facilities and television points. Crossways senior staff team comprises the registered manager, Home manager, care coordinator, training and development manager and administration manager. The home employs staff, working a roster, which gives 24-hour cover. Residents and staff share the domestic duties as part of their programme towards more independent living. The staff who work at Crossways are Christians and their faith forms the basis of the philosophy of care offered within the home. The inspection report is available to residents. Weekly fees range between £303.25 to £738 with additional charges for a contribution to some holidays, personal TV licence and use of tumble dryer. Annual Service Review Page 3 of 6 Service update since the last key inspection or annual service review: What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at all the information that we have received, or asked for, since the last key inspection or annual service review. This included: The annual quality assurance assessment (AQAA) that was sent to us by the service. The AQAA is a self-assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us some numerical information about the service. Contacted the home to give the people using the service and from other people with an interest in the service and opportunity to comment about the service. Information we have about how the service has managed any complaints. What the service has told us about things that have happened in the service, these are called notifications and are a legal requirement. The previous key inspection and the results of any other visits that we have made to the service in the last 12 months. Relevant information from other organisations. What other people have told us about the service. What has this told us about the service? The information provided by the service supported that in regard to improving the experiences and outcomes for the people who use the service has included: Increasing the consultation with residents about any refurbishment and renewal of the building. Extensive work has been carried out to the building to rectify subsidence problems and to improve facilities and decoration of the communal and private spaces. They have extended the assessment period of stay in the home as to be able to ascertain on a more gradual basis identification of individuals needs. Continuing with developing individuals education as to care for themselves, through learning about nutrition and developing cooking skills. The variety of internal and external activities has increased to widen their experiences. The last key inspection that was carried out on 19/04/09 identified that the people who use the service receive an Excellent quality service. However, we can inspect the service at any time if we have concerns about the quality of service provided to the people who live there.
