This inspection was carried out on 9th October 2006.
CSCI has not published a star rating for this report, though using similar criteria we estimate that the report is Adequate. The way we rate inspection reports is consistent for all houses, though please be aware that this may be different from an official CSCI judgement.
The inspector found there to be outstanding requirements from the previous inspection report but made no statutory requirements on the home.

What the care home does well
Before service users move into the home, their needs are properly assessed. Service users` privacy and dignity is usually respected.Service users reported being happy at the home, liking their bedrooms and having good relationships with staff. An activities organiser is employed to work at the home. Good food is provided that service users say they enjoy. Friends and relatives are encouraged to visit service users at the home and are made to feel welcome. The home is well maintained and is clean and comfortable. The home has a clear complaints procedure and some service users know how to use this. Adequate policies and procedures are in place to protect service users from abuse. A supportive and approachable manager runs the home.
What has improved since the last inspection?
Some staff have received supervision since the last inspection. A staff training plan has been developed. Maintenance issues identified at the last inspection have been addressed.
What the care home could do better:
Individual care plans and risk assessments need to be more detailed so that care staff are clear about how to meet service users` needs and protect them from harm. The management of medicines must improve to ensure the safety of service users. The staff need to continue with the progress they are making towards achieving their NVQ qualifications. Staff training needs to be provided in fire and adult protection. The recruitment practices at the home must improve to ensure the protection of the service users. Further leisure opportunities need to be provided both in and outside of the home.Service users need to be given the option of sitting in comfortable seating whilst having their meals.
