What did we do for this annual service review? We looked at the following information. The annual quality assessment (AQAA) that was completed by the service. The AQAA is a self assessment that focuses on how well outcomes are being met for people using the service. It also gave us numerical information about the service. We received surveys from 14 people who live in the home, 14 staff who work in the home and one social care professional who visits. We also considered what the service has told us about things that have happened in the service since the last inspection. These are called notifications and are sometimes a legal requirement. We looked at the previous inspection report and took into account discussions with the manager and relevant information provided by other organisations. What has this told us about the service? The information provided for this review confirmed our opinion that this home is still providing a good service. Most people who live in the home said that they were pleased with the service and had no major criticisms or concerns. One person who lives in the home wrote They look after me well. Another person wrote I cant think of anything that can be improved. Seven of the people who live in the home wrote that they would not know how to make a formal complaint. But they all said good things about the service. One wrote We are all happy here. The main way that people who live in the home suggested that the service could be improved is by the home organising more trips out. Most staff also suggested that there should be more activities and trips arranged for the people who live in the home. Eleven of the staff who returned surveys were generally positive about the home. They had lots of good things to say about the manager and their colleagues. One person wrote The Beeches is a nice place to work because we get a lot of support from the manager. Another person wrote The home is a lovely place to work. Staff give 100 dedication to the residents needs. Most staff commented that the care given is of a high quality and that the home is a clean, tidy and welcoming place for visitors. Two staff wrote that the training they receive is good. Three staff made some criticisms of the home and the service. They were concerned about lack of resources to meet the needs of the people who live in the home and said that this is an increasing problem. Two wrote that hygiene products and equipment, like hand gels and gloves, are sometimes not replaced quickly enough. But the staff that were critical of the shortage of resources still wrote that people get good care. The professional who returned a survey was generally positive about this service. What are we going to do as a result of this annual service review? We are not going to change our inspection plan and we will do a Key Inspection by 02/07/10. However, we can inspect at any time if we have concerns about the quality of the service or the safety of people who use it. Annual Service Review Page 4 of 5 Reader Information
